Is the optical power of a compatible transceiver different from the OEM version?

A compatible replacement should meet the applicable transmit-power and receiver-sensitivity specifications for the interface it is designed to support.

Why does my compatible transceiver show low RX optical power?

Low receive power can result from excessive fiber loss, dirty connectors, damaged fiber, excessive link distance, incorrect wavelength pairing, or insufficient transmit power from the remote transceiver. Compare the measured RX power with the module's specified receiver range.

Can compatible transceivers be used for 100G, 400G, and 800G networks?

Yes. Compatible modules are available across many high-speed interfaces, although compatibility requirements become increasingly platform-specific at higher data rates.

Why does the transceiver work after reinserting it?

Reinserting a module forces the host to redetect and reinitialize the transceiver. If this repeatedly resolves the issue, inspect the port, module contacts, firmware behavior, and compatibility profile rather than assuming the optical link itself is faulty.

Can a transceiver be compatible with the switch but still fail to link?

Yes. Host compatibility and optical-link compatibility are separate issues. A module may be correctly recognized while the link fails because of fiber, wavelength, FEC, polarity, configuration, or link-budget problems.
