Why does the switch report a vendor or part number different from the physical transceiver label?

Compatible transceivers may contain programmed identification information required by the host platform. The vendor or part number reported by the switch can therefore differ from the manufacturer's physical product label.

Why does the switch detect the transceiver but report an incorrect module type?

This can occur when the EEPROM compatibility profile does not match the intended interface or when the host interprets the programmed identification differently. Verify the module coding and corresponding OEM reference.

Why does my compatible transceiver keep losing and restoring the link?

Intermittent links can be caused by marginal optical power, dirty connectors, unstable fiber connections, FEC mismatches, port configuration, temperature, or compatibility issues. Check both the optical link and host-side configuration.

Why does the link work at one end but show an error at the other end?

Each transceiver must be compatible with its own host device. In a mixed-vendor link, one end may be correctly coded while the transceiver at the opposite end is not fully compatible with its switch or router.

Can I use two differently branded compatible transceivers at opposite ends of the link?

Yes, provided each transceiver is compatible with its local host and both modules use matching optical standards, wavelengths, data rates, fiber types, and other required link parameters.
