Do compatible transceivers support hot swapping?

Most SFP-family, QSFP-family, and similar pluggable transceivers are designed for hot-pluggable operation according to the applicable interface specification. Host-equipment procedures should still be followed.

Will compatible transceivers work after a switch firmware upgrade?

They often do, but firmware changes can modify transceiver validation behavior. Compatibility should therefore be verified when deploying modules on newly updated network operating systems.

Why does the switch report a vendor or part number different from the physical transceiver label?

Compatible transceivers may contain programmed identification information required by the host platform. The vendor or part number reported by the switch can therefore differ from the manufacturer's physical product label.

Do both ends of an optical link need the same OEM compatibility?

No. Each transceiver generally needs to be compatible with the equipment in which it is installed. For example, one end may be coded for one switch brand and the other end for another.

Why does the transceiver work after reinserting it?

Reinserting a module forces the host to redetect and reinitialize the transceiver. If this repeatedly resolves the issue, inspect the port, module contacts, firmware behavior, and compatibility profile rather than assuming the optical link itself is faulty.
